June 7th - 8th - Saint Jo's City Wide Garage Sale in conjunction with the Red River Valley Tourism Association (RRVTA). RRVTA would like to invite you to this year’s regional event of the season - the US Hwy 82/287 Yard Sale! In the Red River Valley area, North Texas and Southern Oklahoma on June 7th & 8th, there will be yard sales, garage sales, sidewalk sales, farmers markets and flea markets in participating communities covering 425 miles of the Highway 82 and Highway 287 corridors and beyond! From as far as New Boston in the east, to Munday and Seymour in the west, south to Henrietta and north to Quanah, and Frederick, Oklahoma and points in between, you are sure to find lots of treasures! . July July 4th - Fourth of July. Sixth Annual Old Jo’s Firecracker 5K Run on the square in Saint Jo. Race starts at 8:00 a.m. The certified course goes through city streets and on FM 677. Please go to www.oldjosfirecracker5k.com to register and for additional information.
The City of Saint Jo, the Saint Jo Chamber of Commerce and the Saint Jo Volunteer Fire Department will once again sponsor a July 4th Fireworks show at Boggess City Park, beginning at full dark, around 9:00p.m. Live music, free watermelon and a concession stand begin at 6:00pm.
A patriotic children's parade will begin at 7:00pm. The parade will go from the town's square up Howell Street to the park. For information please call Marty Bugg at 940-995-7049. Field day games and races for children will begin following the parade.
The Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the eleventh annual July 4th Freeze-Off at 8:00pm. Teams are invited to prepare home made ice cream. The winners are chosen by popular vote after tasting all the ice cream. To register your entry call Fran Alderman 940-995-7150. The Community Choir will be performing just before the fireworks show. August August 2nd - 3rd - 56th Annual Saint Jo Rodeo. The Rodeo begins at 8:30 p.m. and is held at the Saint Jo Riding Club Rodeo Arena on Highway 82. Tickets are $8.00 in advance and $10.00 at the gate. Contact Nancee Turlington at 940-995-2885 for information about the Rodeo.
August 3rd - Rodeo Parade. The parade will begin at 5 p.m. The route is up Main Street to Evans, Highway 82, continue on Hwy 82 going to the square and turning right on Howell street, then back down Main Street. The parade is sponsored by the Saint Jo Chamber of Commerce. Prizes will be given to the best in each of the following categories. Judging will be based on entries that best exemplify the theme. Riding Club - 1st $150, 2nd $100, Float - 1st $100, 2nd $75, Individual - 1st $50. No 4-wheelers or ATVs, there is no fee to enter the parade. Free dinner and entry into the rodeo is provided for all riding club participants. 2013 Saint Jo Rodeo Queen Saint Jo Rodeo Queen's Contest is open to girls ages 13-21 who live within 100 miles of Saint Jo. The contest is based on 25% horsemanship, 25% appearance, and 25% ticket sales. All girls are required to sell a minimum of 25 tickets. The new Rodeo Queen will receive a trophy trailer. 2013 Saint Jo Junior Rodeo Queen Open to young ladies 12 and under, this contest is also based equally on horsemanship, appearance, personality, and ticket sales. The Junior Rodeo Queen will receive a trophy saddle. Individual prizes will also be awarded for the winners of each division. 2013 Saint Jo Princess Contest The princess contest, open to girls 8 and under from Montague and Cooke Counties. Girls do not have to own a horse or know how to ride a horse for this contest. December December 14th - The Saint Jo Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the annual “Santa on the Square” program. This year’s event will include a lighted parade, goodie bags for the children, refreshments on the plaza, and a visit from Santa! There will also be live music and local businesses on the square will be open. The parade will begin at 6:00pm. The Chamber invites everyone in the Montague county and surrounding communities to attend. Click on the link above for pictures of last years event. Clubs and Organizations Saint Jo Century Club The Century Club meets the first Thursday of months September through May. The meetings are at 7:00pm in the Chamber Building on the square. For more information, please contact Dianne LeClair 940-995-2464. Saint Jo Chamber of Commerce The Chamber meets the last Monday of every month at noon, in the Chamber Building on the square. Saint Jo Community Choir The Community Choir performs at various events through out the year including 4th of July, Toast To Teachers luncheon, and Christmas on the Square. Saint Jo Historical Preservation Society The Historical Society was formed to promote an appreciation of the history and heritage of Saint Jo. This society appoints members to the Historic Preservation Advisory Board of the City of Saint Jo and works on several projects throughout the year.
