Saint Jo Community Calendar 2008 June June 6th-7th - Hwy 82/287 Yard Sale. Saint Jo is participating in the Highway 82/287 Yard Sale that goes from Vernon to The other side of Paris, Texas. Please visit www.redrivervalley.info for information and a map on cities participating. To participate in Saint Jo's Yard Sale, please contact City Hall at 940-995-2337 to be put on the map. Cost is $5.00.
Summer Baseball. This is a Saint Jo tradition sponsored by the Saint Jo Summer Baseball Association. Teams are from T-ball through Pony League. Look for sign up dates in the Saint Jo Tribune. For additional information please contact Sheila Barnett.
July July 4th - Fourth of July and Saint Jo's Sesquicentennial Celebration. The City of Saint Jo, the Saint Jo Chamber of Commerce and the Saint Jo Volunteer Fire Department will once again sponsor a July 4th Fireworks show at Boggess City Park, beginning at full dark, around 9:00p.m. A patriotic children's parade will begin at 7:00pm. The parade will go from the town's square up Howell Street to the park. For information please call Marty Bugg at 940-995-7049. Field day games and races for children will begin following the parade.
The Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the seventh annual July 4th Freeze-Off. Teams are invited to prepare home made ice cream. The winners are chosen by popular vote after tasting all the ice cream. To register your entry call Donna Howell-Sickles at 940-995-9447. The Community Choir will be performing just before the fireworks show. There will be a concession stand and free watermelon. So bring your lawn chair and join us in the park for an evening of food, fun, games, music and fireworks.
August August 1st - 2nd - 51st Annual Saint Jo Rodeo. The Rodeo begins at 8:30 p.m. and is held at the Saint Jo Riding Club Rodeo Arena on Highway 82. Tickets are $6.00 in advance and $8.00 at the gate. There will be a dance both nights following the Rodeo. The dance is free with paid admission to the Rodeo. August 2nd - Montague County Sesquicentennial Rodeo Parade. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. and the route is up Main Street to Highway 82, through downtown Saint Jo square and down Main street. The parade is sponsored by the Saint Jo Chamber of Commerce. Cash prizes will be awarded in three categories: Riding Clubs, Floats, and individual entries. October October 18th - Montague County Fair. Around the Courthouse Square in Montague - featuring old-fashioned fun, food, games and entertainment for all ages. For additional information please contact Donna Howell-Sickles at 940-995-9447.
December December 13th - Santa Saturday; includes the Saint Jo Annual Tour of Homes and Christmas on the square. The tour of homes is from 2:00pm to 5:00 pm. Tickets are $5.00 and may be purchased in advance or at the first house. Your ticket enters you in a drawing for a $250 Wal-Mart gift card and a $100 Home Depot gift card; the drawing will be held during the activities on the square. Christmas on the square and the parade of lights begins at 5:30. The nights kicks off with a lighted parade, Santa arrives for a visit with the kids, enjoy songs from the Saint Jo Community Choir and refreshments served by the Chamber. Saint Jo Century Club The Century Club meets the first Thursday of months September through May. The meetings are at 7:00pm in the Chamber Building on the square. For more information, please contact Charmyn Wallace at 940-995-9479. Saint Jo Chamber of Commerce The Chamber meets the last Friday of every month at noon, in the Chamber Building on the square. Saint Jo Community Choir The Community Choir performs at various events through out the year including 4th of July and Christmas on the Square. If you are interested in singing with the choir please contact Suzanne Lawson at 940-995-7261. Practice times vary. Saint Jo Historical Preservation Society This society has recently been formed. The Historical Society was formed to promote an appreciation of the history and heritage of Saint Jo. Saint Jo Opry The Opry is held the 2nd Saturday of every month in the Saint Jo I.S.D. auditorium. For more information, please contact David or Brenda Doshier at 940-995-2178. Saint Jo Riding Club The Riding Club meets the first Tuesday of every month at the Rodeo Arena or the Civic Center depending on the weather. Membership dues are $5.00 a year.
