July

July 4th - Fourth of July.  The City of Saint Jo, the Saint Jo Chamber of Commerce and the Saint Jo Volunteer Fire Department will once again sponsor a July 4th  Fireworks show at Boggess City Park, beginning at full dark, around 9:00p.m.  Live music, free watermelon and a concession stand begin at 6:00pm.  A patriotic children's parade will begin at 7:00pm.  The parade will go from the town's square up Howell Street to the park.  For information please call Marty Bugg at 940-995-7049.  Field day games and races for children will begin following the parade. 

 

The Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the eighth annual July 4th Freeze-Off.  Teams are invited to prepare home made ice cream.  The winners are chosen by popular vote after tasting all the ice cream.  To register your entry call Donna Howell-Sickles at 940-995-9447.   The Community Choir will be performing just before the fireworks show.  Bring your lawn chair and join us in the park for an evening of food, fun, games, music and fireworks.  For additional information please call Donna Howell-Sickles at 940-995-9447.

 

August

August 6th - 7th  - 53rd Annual Saint Jo Rodeo.  The Rodeo begins at 8:30 p.m. and is held at the Saint Jo Riding Club Rodeo Arena on Highway 82.  Tickets are $6.00 in advance and $8.00 at the gate.   There will be a dance both nights following the Rodeo.  The dance is free with paid admission to the Rodeo.   Contact Ancil Thurman at 940-995-2930 for information about the Rodeo.   To enter the Rodeo, contact Dale Lyons at 580-276-5606.

 

August 7th - Rodeo Parade.  The parade will begin at 5 p.m. and the route is up Main Street to Highway 82, the parade will continue on Hwy 82 going to Meigs street, then back down Main Street.  The parade is sponsored by the Saint Jo Chamber of Commerce.  Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second and third places in three categories:  Riding Clubs, Floats, and individual entries.  Please contact Paul Cunningham at 940-995-2882, fax 940-995-2886, cell 214-906-5541 or email firemarshal790@yahoo.com  with any questions or to enter the parade.

 

2010 Saint Jo Rodeo Queen

The Saint Jo Riding Club is currently seeking young ladies who would like to compete in the Saint Jo Rodeo Queen's Contest.  Girls ages 12-21 are eligible to participate.  The contest is based on 25% horsemanship, 25% appearance, and 25% ticket sales.  All girls are required to sell a minimum of 25 tickets.  The new Rodeo Queen will receive a trophy trailer.  The  princess contest, open to girls 11 and under is based solely on ticket sales.  For more information, contact Stacey Ward at 940-727-1717.

October  - Scarecrow Fest, 10:00am to 2:00pm on the Saint Jo downtown square.  There will be a scarecrow contest, vendors, games, crafts, hayride and food.  There will be two categories for the scarecrow contest, youth and adult.  The youth prize is $25 and the adult prize is $50 for first place. The cost for vendors is $10 for a 10X10 space, there is no charge for non-profit organizations. This event is put on by the Century Club, to sign up for a vendor space and the scarecrow contest please contact Marge Pullin at 940-759-4518.

 

December

December 11th - The Saint Jo Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the annual “Christmas on the Square” program. This year’s event will include a home Christmas lights contest, a lighted parade, goodie bags for the children, refreshments on the plaza, and a visit from Santa! The Saint Jo Community Choir will also perform. The parade will begin at 6:00pm.  The Chamber invites everyone in the Montague county and surrounding communities to attend.

Christmas Lighting Contest

Homes will be judged during the week of December 6. Homes must be within a two-mile radius of the city of Saint Jo. If you plan to enter, please contact Larry Smith at (940) 995-2668 or e-mail lsmithisd@earthlink.net. You must enter to be eligible for the prizes. 1st place - $75 2nd place - $50 3rd place - $25

Christmas Parade Contest

Parade entries will need to be submitted by December 1, 2009. All entries must be lighted. Entries will need to arrive no later than 5:00 pm on December 12. Saint Jo Civic Center

On the downtown square, available to rent for reunions, birthday parties, baby showers etc.  Cost is $40 day, $25 half day.  Call Quinton Conyers, 940-995-2521 or Gerald Boyd, 940-995-2659.

 

 

              

 

Saint Jo Century Club

The Century Club meets the first Thursday of months September through May.  The meetings are at 7:00pm in the Chamber Building on the square.  For more information, please contact Cecilia Ashley at 940-995-2452.

Saint Jo Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber meets the last Friday of every month at noon, in the Chamber Building on the square.  Lunch is served.  For additional information please call the Chamber at 940-995-2188. 

Saint Jo Community Choir

The Community Choir performs at various events through out the year including 4th of July, Toast To Teachers luncheon, and  Christmas on the Square.   If you are interested in singing with the choir please contact Suzanne Lawson at 940-995-7261.  Practice times vary.

Saint Jo Garden Club

The Garden club meets once a month on Thursday at 7:00pm in the Chamber Building in the square.  For additional information please contact Donna Howell-Sickles at 940-995-9447.

Saint Jo Historical Preservation Society

The Historical Society was formed to promote an appreciation of the history and heritage of Saint Jo.  This society appoints members to the Historic Preservation Advisory Board of the City of Saint Jo and works on several projects throughout the year.  For questions or additional information please contact Donna Howell-Sickles at 940-995-9447.  

Saint Jo Opry

The Opry is held the 2nd Saturday of every month in the Saint Jo I.S.D. auditorium.   For more information, please contact David or Brenda Doshier at 940-995-2178.

Saint Jo Public Library

Saint Jo Riding Club

The Riding Club meets the first Tuesday of every month at the Rodeo Arena or the Civic Center depending on the weather.  Membership dues are $5.00 a year.  Please contact Ancil Thurman at 940-995-2930 for additional information.

Saint Jo Youth League
